Great location on Strand and near Charing Cross, Global Luggage is the place for the business, even hippie traveler.  They offer all those little staples of travel, from the important luggage, to the useful little bags and packs that make traveling easier and fun.

I am a fan of supporting all those little charity shops you see cropping up around London.  Sometimes it can seem there are thousands, but Fara is nice because it works with orphaned children in Romania, and for some cool vintage, cheap, pre-used purchases, you can help too.

    Matthew liked SCP
The SCP is megalith modern, well-stocked for most tastes, and definitely a bit expensive.  Maybe I'm not used to buying furniture (nor did I buy any on this occasion), but 3,000 quid for a couch just seems like a lot.  I could buy a scooter.  Anyway, this is a trusted, internationally successful store.

If you're shopping furniture and home in the Brick Lane area, this is a must.  I liked the cool, modern coffee tables (lots of options) and the classic-looking storage units.  Some of the seating they sell is a bit too mod and Jetson's for my taste.

This Spitalfields home shop is a great bet for its location and for the vintage furniture.  The big drawback here are the prices.  They seem too high for what you get, but that is the vintage anything market these days, especially in London.

The New Look tries to keep things and fun and fashion forward at reasonable prices.  One of the best elements here is women's dresses: Lots of fresh summer styles for under 40 quid.  Look your best at a good price, that's what I shoot for.

Looking for a little Shoreditch fashion?  No One is a well-backed store with lots of those hip, contemporary permutations you love.  Good selection of men's and women's shoes, especially fancy ones, and in odd twists on standard forms.

This is a nice, specialized bike shop, though not entirely well-located.  They sell Bianchi bikes, which is a plus, and several other brands.  The prices are what you would expect if you know the bike market.  Like any specialized hobby, the bike one can take off, and Push Cycles is a good place to start.

Bobbins Bicycles is a useful and well-stocked bicycle store for the changing face of London.  Take to the streets, that's the idea.  The bikes in fact are mostly sourced from Dutch-land, where the whole bicycle revolution makes its home.  Join the wave.

Slam City is a hip, indie skate shop, specializes in decks and the shoes to ride them in.  All the crucial brands, like Element, Emerica, Nike.  Also they have some pretty sweet boards for the ladies, in vibrant and gnarly styles.

Very cool art supplies store in the vicinity of Covent Garden.  They often have good deals and even better sales.  Some of the highlights are the accessories like bags and totes for travel or storing your recently purchased supplies.

Scribbler is an outfit specializing in that all important staple of modernity...Greeting Cards (greeting, Bday, xmas, etc...).  Well, this is not really my thing, but if you have to get some inventive cards, they have some really cool ones.

I think this is the same company as TJ Maxx in the states.  Not that that is important, really.  Maybe someone just missed a letter on some paperwork somewhere.  This version wins its points for having great, competitive prices on fashionable styles.  A must if you have a budget.

This small, independently based jewelry shop is well-located by Victoria Park, and has all the flare and spice you'd expect from a boutique named Ice Kandi.  Prices are good (not as bling as the name implies) and all the pieces are locally made.

I am firm follower of the Uniqlo.  These guys are always bringing trendy, cheap, worldly fashions to you, and the ambiance here is very low key.  People don't hassle you, but are friendly when you need them or wend your way up to the register with your finds.

If you're looking for some Mayfair chic add this store to your list.  They are especially useful for vibrant, contemporary women's clothing styles.  The prices, however, scared me silly.  This is the place to go if you like your top-end, ubber chic boutiques.

This is the place for trainers, which, in a city like London could be super useful.  I try to travel around in my trainers lately, and switch to my proper shoes when I get somewhere (saved in the back pack).  The selection here is great, and they offer more than just trainers, even proper shoes as i call them.

They have a nice selection here, yet maybe the shoes are not the most long-lasting.  I've had friends tell me that.  So when you shop here, try them out, make sure they seem sturdy, lasting.  Otherwise, like I said, great selection, useful location.

Another Oxford Circus foot shop, but what's special about this one is it specializes in the ladies and sells handbags and umbrellas to boot.  Also, for a chain, it's not such a derivative seeming place.  Some of the shoes, however, could be comparable to the cheaper priced Primark stuff.
